Anyone know the best way into Voiceover work?

Started off wanting to 'act'. Then did directing at Uni.
20 years later I have a proper job but my ex left in May and I am skint having taken on the entire house, bills blah...

Someone told me I have a 'great voice' this weekend and should try and get into voice-overing. But being out of the loop for so many years I'm not really sure where to look for auditions for this kind of thing - whether you could do it from home etc?

Any advice gratefully received Smile

google local voiceover studios, you'll see most of them have a bank of people. Give them a call and ask to be added to their sample list - you may have to pay for a little bit of studio time to make a sample or you may be able to do it yourself at home.

These days it's rare to 'audition' for that sort of thing, people who are casting will just trawl through the samples on the studio's site.

Hi IronNeonClasp,
I'm looking for a voice.
In production is a short Sci-Fi movie and I'm looking for the voice of the spaceship's computer.
No promises, but if you record a sound file on your phone and send it across to 0778 722 9547 I will add you to the list.
What to say? Think outside the box, talk technical. The PAL 9001 computer is mono-tonal, sarcastic, at times argumentative, dismissive and occasionally downright rude. The member of crew it interacts with is called Dave.
In your own voice.... and if you could also repeat whatever you say in an American voice it gives me a better idea of the way you sound.
Start by writing down what you are going to say, read it until you are fluent and go for it.
The recording sessions are some way off yet as I am still in the script development and production of the miniatures stages.
Look forward to 'hearing' from you.
