Job Interview for a Hip, Young Brand...and I'm not young

I submitted a job application for a retail assistant job. I have never worked in retail.

I was surprised to be called for a group interview (first step). They told me to wear something that embody the brand.

Now the brand is young, hip, edgy, kinda punk...and I'm not.

I googled and saw some reviews in Glassdoor that is making me think I won't even be considered, should the application come with picture and date of birth.

Do I still go?

Why did you apply? Do you like their product range/style? If so that will shine through,

What to wear? All black, black skinny jeans/ trousers, black well-cut edgy/architectural top. Maybe an interesting badge/pin/brooch. Flat shoes, trousers should leave 1.5inch gap between shoes and trouser bottom (bit of bare ankle).

Good luck!

Can you tell us what brand it is? Hip & young can mean different things to diffferent people!

I applied because I want a job. I still do, but reading Glassdoor reviews, it seems they get early 20s oldest. I am way beyond early 20s.

It's an Australian brand called Dangerfield.

Personally I would go. If anything you can use it to brush up on your interview technique.
They will probably ask if you feel the brand is significant/represents you (or something similar), so do some research on the brand and other brands with the same target audience.
Basically wear (ideally something they sell) but if not black skinny jeans/ankle grazers,

I'm not familiar with the brand, are you in Oz or are they opening in the uk?
From a very quick look at the website I would say tea dress, DM type books & leather or denim jacket. Alternatively all black, skinny jeans & top heavy black flicky eyeliner!

BeyonceZ · 20/07/2017 23:25

I think their target audience is teens to early 20s.

I'm in Oz.

From a quick look the stuff looks young rather than hip, I'm sticking with tea dress or head to toe black!
You've got nothing to lose by going to the interview - you won't know until you try!

I guess I'm also feeling insecure and worried about sticking out like a sore thumb because of my age.

They won't all be young, the weekend staff will be kids but I bet they have older people during the week & actually running the shop
