Job agency advice

blorgzorb · 16/07/2017 14:17

Started a new job that an agency was recruiting for a couple of weeks ago.
Hated it the first day but thought I needed to give it more time.
I still hate it.

Should I tell the agency and hope they can find me something else? I'm worried I'll tell them and they'll find a new candidate for the job I got and leave me jobless. I don't want to lie or leave anyone in the lurch but I HATE it and I am looking independently for other roles too.

Yes, tell the agency you'd like something else. If you can, give them reasons.

Thank you. You don't think they'd just get rid of me and get someone else in?

I feel so guilty because my new employer is really happy with me, the recruiter was really happy they matched me up so well. I feel trapped!

If you like the company and the people, couldn't you talk about the role content with your manager before you throw in the towel?

What are you unhappy about?

I wouldn't tell the agency that you are unhappy with your role just yet. From what I have observed, recruitment agencies don't really care what your reasons are - whether they are reasonable or not. They have vested interests: keeping the client happy and their image untarnished by "difficult" candidates. Your dissatisfaction with the job may be interpreted as "you are not being flexible enough" by them. They may not feel confident putting you forward for another job in case the same thing happens again. You may find yourself never hearing from them ever again - dressed up as "we don't have any suitable vacancies for you at the moment".

Is your current assignment a temp to perm contract? Is it a specialised role? What are the opportunities available in the company? If you feel there is scope for progression, it might be worthwhile sticking it out.

It's not clear from your post if your are a temp or have been place on a contract/permanently, which will make a difference to the answer.
