Dh has an interview tomorrow, what questions should he ask?

Dh has an interview for a job in a supermarket tomorrow.

I'm trying to help him out by suggesting what questions he could ask at the end of the interview if he's invited to ask any of course.

So far I've come up with

Will there be a chance for further training?

That's it, I'm so rubbish at this.

Also should he mention at the interview that we have a 2 week holiday booked in July and hope that they honour it or wait until we see if he gets the job then mention it?

what is the job?

LaDiDaDi · 21/03/2007 23:40

Only mention holiday once he has got the job.

Without knowing what the job is then I'm not sure you'll get any answers but whatever the job is unless they ask if he has any priot committments don't mention the holiday. When they offer him the job then he can say "oh that's fab - but by the way I'm going on my hols in July"

The job is working on the tills, I think it's going to be manning the self service tills. It's not management or anything like that.

We've been trying to get him out of his current job for a while now. His friends girlfriend is the manageress of the store and she said that there were jobs, got him an application form and said he'd definitely get an interview, which is now tomorrow.

We're really excited about this as he desperately wants and needs out of where he is now.

Does anybody know if supermarkets pay more than minimum wage? or is it likely to be minimym wage that he gets?

don't know re min wage, probably depends which supermarket. Can't think of any specific question and if you / he can't he you could it might be good to end by saying something positive like 'I haven't any questions but i think that customer service is very important and feel that i am good at dealing with people because..blah ?? just an idea..

Linnet · 22/03/2007 00:07

thanks keeplaughing I'll write that down and drum it into him tomorrow. We really really want him to get this job.

the minimum wage thing isn't important I was just curious. He's on MW just now would just be nice if he was getting paid a little bit more than that.

cool, main thing is to act as if you want the job (hence why not to say re hols etc cos it makes you look as if you're not bothered and might be flaky) everyone expects people to have summer hols but if s.o asked me at an interview i would think that that was the main thing they were interested in. An example, was once asked by interviewee what our sick policy was. I did think it was a bit odd and will ring warning bells for evermore. she was a contractor and ended up having months off at v important time with mysterious and never diagnosed illness. think she had done it before. Might sound harsh but all employers really want to know at this point is that you're reliable and can do the job!

p.s good luck to DH, hope it goes ok, let us know

helenhismadwife · 22/03/2007 15:25

dh used to interview people quite frequently and said that one of the best questions he was ever asked by someone he was interviewing was 'Is there any thing that would stop you from employing me? cheeky but he said it made him remember him over the others and also if there were areas of experience etc they were unsure of they could then raise any possible concerns there and then

loads of luck with the interview
