Resigning from work

I'm currently on maternity leave and have recently handed my notice in at work, due to my flexible working request (which is in respect of my disability) having been turned down.

We need to negotiate several aspects of my departure but so far I have not had an acknowledgement. I'm aware that they could be trying to redeploy me, or working on a compromise agreement, or working on a robust response. It's a fragile situation and I don't want to push them, but equally I'd like to know that they have read it and that they will get back to me. Due to the nature of my departure maybe I'm expecting too much at this stage. I'm considering following up with a polite just want to check that you have received my resignation email...but I'm not quite sure how long to give them. It's been two days. Any thoughts?

Presumably you emailed your line manager? Why not give him/her a ring to check it was received?

I did and followed the very specific policy at our workplace for resigning which involves including other key people too. I was thinking of calling....but there's a lot I've left out of my post as I really don't want to be identified, but would clarify why I haven't yet phoned my manager. Partly everything needs to be in writing but also, my manager is hostile towards me and has been far from a supportive (part of my decision to leave as I know my disability would not be supported). As a side note, my manager is also unlikely to answer the phone as prefers email.

2 days isn't very long. I'd give them a week and then follow up if you still haven't heard.

From what you've said I wouldn't expect anything from them at this stage. Do you have proof you sent it? What do you actually need from them? Is there stuff you need to collect? Does it need to be done under a compromise agreement? If you're a member of a union, or have legal cover you may want to take some extra advice. Reading between the lines it seems that you're saying this isn't a straight forward give me my notice I quit, it's more along the lines of "you've made this untenable, I have rights under the EA and if you don't do it under a compromise agreement or settlement agreement then I will see you in Tribunal for an uncapped claim under the EA" and therefore you're expecting them to be jumping quickly. The chances are if that's the case they'll have included their HR and legal teams, in which case you'll not get an answer for a while yet.

I've just spent the better part of a year negotiating a settlement agreement (not for me) with a national company who were absolutely atrocious to deal with. They didn't want to respond, they hated that someone had the upper hand and to be honest I believe their HR rep was simply out of their depth. Could something similar be the case for you?

Annie it is something along those lines although I have no plans to take them to tribunal. I just want out. There's more to it as well.

Ok I'll leave it longer. I've had friends and family saying I should have chased them yesterday but I felt it was too soon, but it's left me wondering when.
