Will employers still ask for GCSE certs if I have my BA certificate?

Ok, long story short.
My parents dragged me off to live in France a year before my GCSEs were due. I did the equivalent in France but have no idea where to certificates went.
I went on to do my A levels which I have misplaced too but can probably get hold of and I have my BA certificate along with transcripts.

I was thinking about retaking my Maths and English GCSE s but it's so expensive and it would be just to show potential employers in the future.

What is your experience?

So far in my employment (TEFL and Learning support mainly) I've not needed them but am thinking about a career change.

I have been asked for degree certificate, but never for previous stuff.

Unless you're applying to be something like a teacher or social worker you're unlikely to need to prove them. Actually you're unlikely to even need your degree certificate for most things.

I've never been asked for any certificates, or in fact any proof whatsoever of any of the claims I've made on applications (despite being scrupulously honest and having all my certificates ready). I've been through teacher teaching (both contract and supply), other work with children, a couple of council/ local government jobs, and not for profit organisations (church and a charity). There may be some sectors who check on GCSE results but it's none of them, in my experience. Plenty of CRB/RBS checks but nothing on qualifications.

HeddaGarbled · 12/06/2017 22:36

Degree certificate and professional qualification were all I was asked for in my most recent application. However, for specific jobs where GCSE Maths & English are requirements e.g. teaching, you'll probably have to provide them. So, depends on the job.

HardcoreLadyType · 13/06/2017 07:06

I had to show my GCSE equivalents when applying to teach. They needed to see English and maths. The same applies to lots of jobs.

Wouldn't it be easier to track down copies of the French certificates than go through all the fuss of doing English and maths GCSEs, though? Or if you did English and maths A level, then those would do. I don't actually have GCSE equivalents, only A level equivalents, but I did English and Maths, so that counted.

Mulledwine1 · 13/06/2017 10:57

I've had to show them once, the job required GCSEs and even though I had far more than that, because they needed GCSEs that's what I had to show (public sector role, say no more).

Usually I can't imagine it would be a problem.
