Facing an issue at work. A bit of burying head in sand on my part but it's coming to bite. I have had the question why has this not been escalated sooner. Good question! So a couple of difficult conversations to have today. So I was starting to think what would i do if I lost this job tomorrow. Been there a year and it's v stressful but in a tedious kind of way. I am the main breadwinner in our family and if I lost my job I wondered how is survive. We have many debts and my husbands salary would cover the non essentials but wewouldnt have enough for food? Anyone experienced this or thought about a back up plan? WWYD? I would look for another job of course but it can take a while.

Live off savings as long as they lasted (approx 1 yr if my partner still working as well)

Attempt to get tax credits/anything else we could be entitled to

Cut all possible corners on expenditure

Set up job alerts on websites. Join LinkedIn. Find a work agency that focus on the type of work you are best at. Approach local companies for any work that will see you through. Research what benefits or tax credits you may be entitled to. Contact your union if appropriate. Maybe talk to CAB?

Try not to deplete emergency fund savings too much

Hit networking hard using tools such as LinkedIn and making sure people know I'm available

Update CV and Register with a few specialist recruiters

Do a batch of selling on eBay of things I've been meaning to get rid of / no longer have use for

Take temporary / part time positions at friends and families business who would be willing to help in the short term

I'm in the very fortunate position that it wouldn't matter too much. Our mortgage is paid, we have savings and DH has a good job. This is a combination of luck (inheritance) and planning.

I contracted a lot earlier in my career so learnt to be very frugal and stashed the cash. I'm still very much like it now and would rather have choices than a new car on the drive, state of the art tv, etc.

If I was in your position now, I would be looking to reduce costs. Look at all your bills and subscriptions, see if you can reduce your outgoings. Sell any unwanted things. I'd get myself on LinkedIn (lots of jobs advertised on there these days) and search on Indeed. If money was really tight then I'd temp as an interim measure. To be honest, I'd sweep the streets rather than go into debt.

If you want peace of mind, you really need to get rid of your debts then start chipping away at overpaying your mortgage (if you have one).
