Employee assaulted outside of work - how to handle?

Small company so we don't have an HR department. Member of my team was attacked after work last week. They came in this morning to try to take their mind off it, but have since gone home as they decided it was a bad idea after all.
I'm keen to make sure they feel supported and looked after by the company but I'm not sure what this would entail professionally.
I've done a bit of Googling but am only really finding articles related to workplace violence, which isn't relevant. Thank you
Can anyone point me in the direction of any useful resources?

Thank you should have been at the end!

you would apply your normal company sickness policy and once the employee has returned to work you could offer an ear and open door if they needed it during the return to work meeting.

Full pay would be discretionary.

If you want to show support, full pay would be a must. You wouldn't penalise someone for being absent from work by docking their pay because they were beaten up outside the office.

They might have PTSD, so offering to pay for some counselling would be appropriate, or if you operate an Employee Assistance Program, pointing them towards it would help give them some external confidential support

Thanks both of you. Daisy, counselling crossed my mind - I'll look into it.

a colleague was assaulted on their commute home from work. Our employer gave assistance between the office and public transport afterwards. WE had large HR dept with assistance programme and full sick pay, and they were encouraged to get themselves in a fit state before returining.

You might want to offer a phased/flexible return over a few days?
