Job interview requires passport.. I've lost mine!

Got interview on Monday for a job I really want.
They rang me yesterday and told me to bring passport for ID.
I looked on website too and it says they will ONLY accept passport as ID.

I've turned the house upside down looking for it. I honestly think it's not here and got lost in house move. I've not used it for years.Whenever I've needed photo ID I've always shown driving license.

All I can do is ring tomorrow (if offices are open) or on the day itself..interview not until afternoon.
I'm a UK citizen... it's a UK job... I have photo driving license, proof of address etc.
I'm getting really anxious that they will refuse to see me.
It's taken me months to get an interview with anyone.

Not everyone has a passport anyway! Not that I'm making excuses for self..but I've spent the whole day looking, I'm so stressed out

This is a bit bonkers. It's not a legal requirement to hold a passport, lots of people don't have one. Unless the job involves foreign travel there is no need to get one.

Just locate your birth certificate and driver's license.

LIZS, a birth cert is not ID,

LIZS · 20/05/2017 12:56

Perhaps not on its own but it is better than nothing.

AntigoneJones · 20/05/2017 13:02

to be honest, it is not better than nothing, as it clearly states on the birth cert., 'a birth cert is not evidence of identity'.

List A here https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachmentdata/file/441957/employerssguidetooacceptablerightttoworkkdocuments_v5.pdf states a full UK birth certificate and an official document with NI details are sufficient.

Yay miracle of miracles.. once I'd resigned myself that it was gone, I suddenly had a flashback that I DID have it in the house ! I clearly remembered shoving it in a bedroom drawer ages ago, as my safe place.
I had no idea if had been moved since then but I had a rummage and there it was, standing up right flat against front of drawer, so many times I have opened that drawer and not known as it ws out of my line of vision!
Thanks so much for all the replies!

So easy to do this with a passport/ driving licence. They slip inside things and between things , and the more frantic the search the further they slip! I now store mine all together in a HUGE envelope, along with other easy to lose things like my will.

Glad you found it!

In our company we only need you to prove that you have the Right to Work in the UK if you are offered a job, not actually for the interview itself. However, if you can prove this at the interview then not only can we be sure we are offering the job to an eligible person, we can also start to organise your company email username etc so that it's ready for you before you start, otherwise you could have a frustrating 2-3 days before you can access anything online (email, intranet for induction, training etc). I have seen this happen often and it's no fun for anyone.
Just thought I'd give this perspective in case anyone else is in the same position.

Now you can relax and wow them at the interview Smile

Come back and let us know how you get on.

Interview was yesterday and I can't really say how it went as it was constantly interrupted.
It was on site of where the job would be. They are very busy and very short staffed hence recruiting.
The manager interviewing me kept being interrupted by their staff.
It was really off putting. eg in the door of the room I was in was a shutter. Staff kept opening shutter and asking the manager questions.
Poor form as they knew she was interviewing!
NB I do NOT blame the manager for any of this! I felt sorry for her, I've worked in hectic places where colleagues have no boundaries. However, because of the constant disruption her mind was elsewhere. So if she doesn't remember me well, it will not bode for me! She left the interview room several times to deal with staff. It all felt very disjointed. Btw there was no emergency.. as I heard what the staff members were asking.
Amazed they didn't tell customers to wait ! As in, manager is conducting an interview, could you come back in ten minutes. .or better, to try and answer q's themselves!
She was very stressed and under pressure. I did tell her I was fine as worked in similar. But I felt she just needed to rush it as staff could not do without her.
If I get the position they should tell me by Monday
