I wondered if anyone could help.
I am trying to find a job working from to fit around 2 young children, one of them would go into Nursery for 2 mornings and the other is 6 months, so I would try and work around him (I know not ideal but needs must)
I have sales and advertising experience and also b4 the kiddies used to be a Travel agent (I would love to do this from home but everywhere seems to need 2 out of 5 years abta) which has now expired he he
Any ideas welcome, really need some extra money
thanks

have you thought about any of the direct selling companies? there listed at www.dsa.org.uk They seem to work for lots of mums and can be great as you choose your own hours and low startup costs.

I'm an usborne team leader which i fit around my 2 girls (33m and 20m) if you'd like any more info i'd be happy to help [email protected]

I think there are also lots of good ideas on www.mumandworking.co.uk and also www.real-work-at-home.co.uk

best of luck anyway, no work is easy when you've little ones!

if you go down the selling route then avon might be worth a look. I do it at a very basic level and its working well but i know others that have a thriving business and are doing really well.

Hi
Thanks Ladies I will have a look at these, but I have tried Avon and didnt really like it, no offence but it just wasnt for me.
and with Usborne I dont really associate yet with the "school payground" if you know what I mean

my eldest has only just started pre-school a few hours a week, so don't really know anyone from school either but i have done events at lots of playgroups and softplay centers as can take them both along with me. I have also managed to make contact with lots of schools and done quite a few christmas/summer fairs. There are many different ways of doing things. I've no sales expereince what so ever and things seem to be going well. I bet you'd find it a breeze!

Hiya,
I don't know if you are still looking for ideas, but just thought I would let you know about the work I now do.
I am an agent for Tish Tash Toys (www.tishtashtoys.com), who sell wooden toys, educational games and lots of other exciting childrens goodies! They are a relatively new, but rapidly expanding company. You fit the hours around your family which is great and you can start by just showing a few catalogues around friends and family. This is how I started and am now branching into coffee mornings, parties, fetes and toddler groups!
My daughter is 16 months old, so as she enters into each new stage (baby group/toddler group/nursery etc), I just take my catalogues along and start chatting to the other mums! If you would like any more info, please do not hesitate to mail me at [email protected]

Spooky! I also have sales & Advertising experience and used to be a travel agent! Kids are DS 3 and DD 9 mths. Am also itching to do some work.. If you have any luck let me know. I almost went for the Phoenix Cards option. Is a good product, but I'm probably just not that organised right now.... Will get there eventually!

anniebear · 13/05/2007 13:14

I have an advert in the Jobs section titled

"work from home selling childrens books"

Maybe not quite what you are looking for but It is something that can work around the children, you can work when you like, no pressure etc

the new Usborne sponsored reads you can do in schools are brilliant, Not much work and ideal if you have young children

Feel free to take a look, I have had quite a few Organsiers join through Mumsnet in the last week or so

Hi Sarahj999

Sorry not been on here for a while
I have found something to do with advertising that is legit and they are (I think still looking for some one) if you email me a dawncaunce at aol dot com
and I will try and point you in the right direction, I am not recruiting and the job is for a reputable company who will pay by the hour

mamatoto is definitely worth looking at if you are interested in going down the direct sales route.
take a look at their website, the products are very easy to sell (all bestsellers) you get 20% commission on everything and everything is at normal RRP. commission is higher on books.

email [email protected] for more info.

alfiemama · 24/05/2007 18:33

I'm in the same position as you, I want to use my brain again and get out and about but not too sure on what to do.

In the long term I am looking at retraining and do something to do with accounts, but that really doesn;t help me in the short term. I looked at various home party planning companies and decided to go with Truly Madly baby who were featured on the 2nd series of Dragons Den where Julie succeeded in getting investement from one of the dragons!

The products are all baby and toddler up to the age of 5 yrs and I manage to fit this in around my 2DD's.

If you want any more info you can either have a look at the website www.trulymadlybaby.co.uk (please quote SE23MW) or email me on [email protected]

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I've got a great job working for a yearbook company. It's based at home, term-time only and flexible working hours. I manage to work it around my 2 year old daughter perfectly.

In fact, they are looking for people based in London, Herts and Kent. If anyone is genuinely interested, please let me know.

How are you finding that mellowma, I'm thinking of doing the pirman bookkeeping course with a view to working from home for a while until I'm able to go back into an office.

Did you find the work easy to come by?

Sorry for the hijack!
