Can you get fired for not doing overtime?

Exactly as the title states really. I'm working part time right now, 16 hrs per week spread over 4 evenings, since Jan this yr. I also receive child tax and working tax credits.
My contract says 16 hrs per week but lately my boss has asked me to do overtime, which I'm happy to do - up to a point. Obviously if I wasn't getting tax credits I'd do all the hours he could give me, but I don't want to get overpaid tax credits. I've changed my hours twice online to try to show the overtime (4 hrs extra per week I've added lately) but obviously can't keep changing it as it will mess things up too much (hours and income guess!). Plus overtime is available right now but won't be all the time.

Guess my question is, can I get fired for not doing overtime? I was asked at the interview if I was flexible, and I am but up to a point. He mentioned O/T occasionally, every shift to me isn't 'occasionally'. Being asked at 3pm to go in for 5/6pm isn't always possible. I have to cook dinner and eat for a start.
I will also be looking for a day job which would mean doing overtime wouldn't always be possible.

*there are 6/7 other people who I work with, they get asked but at a push only do 1 hr O/T sometimes during the week. There is a young guy who does do more but he's getting fed up with not having enough hours on the job!

What does your contract say about hours/overtime?

My contracted hours are 16 hrs per week. Mon - Sunday
The hours at the moment are 8-12pm 4 evenings a week (changed from 3 evenings and different time of hours as we had a delivery day added recently).

^Your manager will require you to work varied rotas to accommodate business needs (busiest trading days).

Easter and bank/public holidays are some of the busiest periods and irrespective of contractual hours you may be rota'd to work on such days and work additional hours. We will make all reasonable efforts to ensure you receive 2 weeks notice of rota changes and your availability matrix will be taken into consideration.^

The handbook says overtime is only compulsory when new stores are opened, revamps and conversions or stock takes are done.
