What would you do?

My name has been given by a colleague of mine as someone who can provide feedback on his work as part of a training programme for promotion.

My problem is that this colleague is useless, talks a good story but when you actually work with him causes all sorts of problems.

I have been told that the details of the questionnaire I will be given will be confidential but he will be given a summary. He has nominated no one else in the dept to give this feedback and will know if I make negative comments who they came from. My problem is that I work with him and need to work in a team with him and therefore it could make life really hard.

He is unaware of some of the issue surrounding him but is aware of some minor stuff. My boss is aware for example that I had to re do a major part of his work at very short notice working through part of the night to get it done but he isn't.

What would you do ladies

Be constructively honest... XX is fab at this bit but sometimes letsthings slide a bit over here and I think we might work more effectively together if he was a little more structured....

bosses will read between lines, you sound positive and he won't get the subplot in all likelihood.

another way to look at it - if the situation was reversed wouldn'ty you want him to be honest?

I think he should have asked you first before nominating you, its like asking for a reference isn't it? and you would expect to be asked before writing one of those.

I would decline, (unless you want to be shot of him, then say he's wonderful)

BTW, why doesn't he know the catch up work you have done for him and the other issues? Maybe he could put things right if he knew he was less than fantastic!

I think you should complete it, being honest and constructive.

Then, sit him down and tell him you want to talk your responses through with him (he will probably take the bad news better this way).

If your boss is aware of the major issues and he hasn't had the balls to address it then he is a twat. Your boss needs to back you up on this.

I have no idea where you live but is the guys initials PG as it sounds very much like someone I had to deal with in the past!
