Would this be a selfish thing to do? opinions needed...

I am currently looking for part time work. My ds is 2.2 and spend time with no one other than me 24/7 and perhaps my sis for a couple of hours every few weeks if i have something important i need to do child-free.

I have worked all my money out and seen lone parent advisors etc and if i work 16 hours + per week i will be £80 per week beter off once all benefits have shifted around and bills/nursery fees/travel are paid.

I am finding it impossible to find work that suits my hours and have been debating with myself whether to consider 4 days or full time if the ideal job came up.

I really couldn't bear to leave my ds 5 days at nursery as he is a very clingy little one anyway and i don't think he will cope well going from seeing me 24/7 - mornings evenings and weekends.

But i am struggling with money so much at the moment and need a job ASAP.

I still need to find out if it would still even be in my better interests to work full time as my benefits would be cut a lot but its just a consideration at the moment.

Would 4-5 days just make me an awful mum? i really wouldn't want to do it anyway but i really need and want a job

and when i say suit my hours, i mean the hours i would prefer which is 2-3 full days per week or maybe 5 mornings or 5 afternoons per week

What kind of work would you prefer ?

What about working in restaurant? Day or evening hours ? You would obviously have to use childminder or babysitter (or family ) rather than nursery.

On the contrary,if you know that getting out will do you good and lify your spirits,it will make you a better mother.

Have you thought about working from home? At least that way you wouldnt need to worry about childcare costs etc?

How about getting ajob in a school as a teacher's assistant. The hours must be fairly good.

What sort of work are you looking for.

I do 2 days and it is great.

BTW - why is it selfish to work? and no you won't be a bad mother! You never know your DS might enjoy his time at nursery/cm. I know mine does...
