I am currently looking for part time work. My ds is 2.2 and spend time with no one other than me 24/7 and perhaps my sis for a couple of hours every few weeks if i have something important i need to do child-free.

I have worked all my money out and seen lone parent advisors etc and if i work 16 hours + per week i will be £80 per week beter off once all benefits have shifted around and bills/nursery fees/travel are paid.

I am finding it impossible to find work that suits my hours and have been debating with myself whether to consider 4 days or full time if the ideal job came up.

I really couldn't bear to leave my ds 5 days at nursery as he is a very clingy little one anyway and i don't think he will cope well going from seeing me 24/7 - mornings evenings and weekends.

But i am struggling with money so much at the moment and need a job ASAP.

I still need to find out if it would still even be in my better interests to work full time as my benefits would be cut a lot but its just a consideration at the moment.

Would 4-5 days just make me an awful mum? i really wouldn't want to do it anyway but i really need and want a job

What kind of work would you prefer ?

What about working in restaurant? Day or evening hours ? You would obviously have to use childminder or babysitter (or family ) rather than nursery.

Of course it wouldn't make you an awful mother!!!!!
On the contrary,if you know that getting out will do you good and lify your spirits,it will make you a better mother.

Have you thought about working from home? At least that way you wouldnt need to worry about childcare costs etc?

How about getting ajob in a school as a teacher's assistant. The hours must be fairly good.

What sort of work are you looking for.

I do 2 days and it is great.

BTW - why is it selfish to work? and no you won't be a bad mother! You never know your DS might enjoy his time at nursery/cm. I know mine does...
