Question about filling in an application form

My dh is filling in an application form for a new job.

The form asks for two previous employments, but he's been in his present employment for 15 years. We're not sure if the place he worked before this present job is still in business and if it is there's an extremely high chance that the people he worked with are no longer there, iykwim.

So what should he put on the form? We don't want him to just put one employment and have them completely ignore the application but at the same time if they want to look at previous employment for a reference the chances are they won't find anyone at this old place of work to give one.

any suggestions?

I would put in the previous place anyway; assuming he gets an interview he can mention the situation then

I have been putting two different people from my present job on my forms, different departments and locations, two interveiws so far.

I have been in the same job for 9 years and the few other jobs I have had I wouln't use for references.

Actually 3 interveiws doing this including 2 local councils and a national organisation.

I would still list the previous job in the employment section though.

I always try to flatter potential new employers by answering all their questions, however daft. I'd just answer the question with the old company's address, and leave it up to them to follow it up if they want to. Same applies to such things as 'date of leaving': it just doesn't matter whether it was 1stJune 1991 or 30thJune - but if you just puth the month of leaving, they'll assume you're trying to cover-up a month in jail or som such problem sigh

Skribble · 11/03/2007 23:27

Never thought of that I always just put the month unless it asks for day. Never thought it looked like a cover up.

Really Slartibartfast, I don't think he can remember exactly when he started in present job. He may recall the month but I doubt he'd remember the day.

Why do they make it all so complicated.

Do you think if he was to put down the previous employment they would maybe look at and think well, he hasn't worked there in well over 15 years chances are they won't know him we won't bother contacting them?

He doesn't have anything to hide but because it's such a huge gap we're wondering if it's worth putting it down.
