I hear you are an expert on fulltime work with travel?!
I just posted this before.
I've just been interviewed for quite an interesting sounding job. It's definitely fulltime and will include some travel (would include northern Europe overnight a couple of times a month and longterm the very occasional week-long trip to Asia).

I'm keen to get an interesting job - we really need my income but it's also about intellectual stimulation for me. There's not much (if any) partime work in my field and at my level.

I have a 10 month old who will start nursery soon and a 6 year old at school.

Anyway would love to hear from other fulltime working mums who have to travel for work. What's it like? What childcare do you have?

Good luck with the job, when will you hear if you've been succesful?

I do some travelling - both kids are at school and go to an afterschool club, dh and mum are BRILLIANT. Also have really good friends who can step in if there's problems.

I've heard that they want to see me again. Dh is pretty good too although unfiortunately he travels too. Not sure how we would manage double cmmitments. All 4 grandparents live a long way away.
Do you work fulltime? How do you find it all?

When will your next interview be?

I work four days a week, but sometimes need to work on my day off. I try not to travel at weekends, and I don't set myself very high standards in terms of anything except for my work and my family (for example, don't have a huge circle of friends, just very close ones who are as happy having a quick catch up in Tescos as a wild girly night out).

My mum is really good at helping with the ironing, and you've just got to turn a blind eye to the state of the kids bedrooms sometimes.

My dh has to travel to with his work too, so we try to set some dates in stone - I'll be away, so there's no way he can travel that week, and vice versa. My work tends to be all Europe, where he tends to be longer-haul, and so far, we've never really clashed.

The kids don't bother at all, although they are older than yours (5 and 7). As long as they've got one of us, they are quite happy. Plus, they love coming to the airport, as that's their chance to get to Burger King! I hate leaving them, and there's no getting round that, but there's so much else I love about the job that it balances out. I try to enjoy my time away; I've read some great books hanging around airports that I'd never have the chance to,

One other tip - book your kids birthdays as holidays, so you will definately be in the country to celebrate with them.

Good luck, I really hope you get it. Let me know how you get on.

My next interview is wednesday Matey. I love the way you involve your kids in your travelling!
Jura, the job should be pretty stimulating.
Are you both in the City? I'm media wich is well-paid but not quite city-standard.

My issue with dh has always been a bit different. he is a musician and sometimes v busy, sometimes not working at all & can do loads of childcare which he does. He also does all the cooking & groceries whn he's around. When he is working it often involves travel for a couple of weeks though. The money takes a long time to come through and isn't always great.
I have the reliable mortgage-paying job basically. He provides the extra cash for holidays, savings etc. He's rarely earned more than me in a year.

My work is based in Glasgow, so not City and not City pay, unfortunately

Good luck, let us know how you get on at the interview on Wednesday.
