Do I need a teaching qualification to tutor people

Hi,

I've been in the IT industry for 15 years, and have plenty of IT qualifications. I was thinking of getting the KS2, 3 and 4 curriculums for IT and then tutoring. I spent 5 years teaching evening classes and loved it. Do I need a formal teaching qualification to tutor?

Not sure about teaching qualification but youll probably need an enhanced criminal record bureau check if youre planning on working with children. Hope someone more helpful comes along soon!

No. I could offer to teach wood work, art or French tomorrow. Whether I could persuade people to come to me without qualifications might be a different issue. I could also call myself a life coach or therapist tomorrow too.

Depends where you plan to do so. Most FE teaching institutions require a qualification - either the Certificate In Education Post-16 (Cert.Ed.) or at least the City & Guilds (C&G) - it was the 730-6 and 730-7 when I did mine, but that may have changed. I'm sure someone will know.

But you can advertise in the local paper without qualifications to teach just about anything.

Have a look here to see what requirements they have}.
