IVF & redundancy

My husband and I are going through ivf at the moment, but I'm working for a company which has two departments which are merging and according to someone I know there are certain roles moving to another country and mine might be one of them.
The redundancies are likely to start from July and although I have maternity cover in my contract and absolutely qualify for SMP as I've been here 5.5 years, I'm terrified that if they make me redundant before the qualifying 15th week, I won't get either what's in my contract or my SMP, and it's unlikely I will get a job when I'm 5-6 months pregnant.
I'm just looking for a bit of advice as I'm so worried.
My HR team don't know I'm going through ivf as I'm taking time off as holiday. Should I confide in one of them?
Even if I got a different job now I don't think I'd be in it long enough to qualify for the SMP.x

You can confide in them but they can't take it into account when selecting for redundancy.
I am sympathetic as I had 4 cycles of ivf myself. 💐

Never!!!! Confide in HR. HR is there to take care of the company, not the employees....

What Vicente said. Look at the department title. You are a resource. They are there to achieve the company's objective.

What would you want to achieve by telling HR? That they'd be less likely to select you for redundancy? It's unlikely to work like that.

You are considered pregnant from embryo transfer and will get the protections of being considered pregnant from that point (if they know). If I recall correctly there is a grey area after egg collection.

I work in HR and I like to think I'm a nice person. But as mentioned above ultimately I work on behalf of the business. I am no more likely to prioritise an individual's interests over the business than someone who works in Finance or Marketing or any other department.

Good luck with the IVF. I've been there and I did tell my manager which helped as she understood my need for time off etc. I hope it works for you.
