What hours do you work?

Chipstick · 14/02/2007 20:27

I currently work Monday, Tuesday and Friday 830-430. My place of work is only 3 miles down the road so I leave at 8am and am home by 5.

I've been offered promotion which will involve changing location and my new base will be 20 miles away. I will need to leave at approx 730am and return home 530ish. Also, possibility of working an extra day but at my insistance will be 10-4 so I can drop dd at school.

I feel like the extra commute will make my working day seem so much longer (its actually only an extra hour) but I'm really umming and ahhing about it.

What days and hours do you work?

I work Monday - Friday, 9am till 3:30pm, term time only, walking distance from home. Perfect for me

pollyanna · 14/02/2007 20:30

2 days a week, leave the house at 7.30 back at 7pm. Some weeks I do 3 days.

Kbear · 14/02/2007 20:32

3 days a week - leave house at 8am, home by 7pm.

Posey · 14/02/2007 20:33

I work Tues/Wed/Thurs from just after 9 (when I've dropped kids at school then walk 5 mins) and finish around 1pm. I officially work 4 hours each day, but juggle a bit so sometimes finish earlier but may take a bit of stuff home to do. I also do an extra 1 hour admin per fortnight.
Term time only.

dingdongjustforyoufg · 14/02/2007 20:52

I work Mon, tues, weds leave the house by 7.30 drop DTs at nursery, get to work around 8/8.15 then pick them up 4.30/5ish home by 5.15 - but when they start school I want to alter my hours so I do more days but less hours in those days, equivalent to what i do now, just more spread out so I can take them to school and pick them up

Overtiredmum · 14/02/2007 20:55

I work evenings, Monday to Friday 5pm to 11pm, leave home at 4pm, get back home by 11.30pm by which time DS snoring his gorgeous head off in bed and hubbie nice and quiet playing his X-Box, so I can go to bed with a good book and read before I zonk out

Bozza · 14/02/2007 20:58

I work Tues-Thurs 8-4.30. This means leaving the house at 7.20 to get there for 8, then I get home about 5.30 because DH does nursery and childminder drop off and I do collecting which despite short distances involved takes about 20 mins.

So I suppose all told I am out 7.20-5.30 3x a week.

Bozza · 14/02/2007 20:58

Also am on call one night a week but if called can sort out any problems by dialling into work.

nikkie · 14/02/2007 21:06

I work Mon/Thurs/Fri 8.55-3.15 usually there at 8.45 leave 3.30 ish its 20 mins to get there and 35 to get home(traffic busier then)
Term time only

I used to do 8.20-4.50 (out from 7.40-5.50) but there wasn't enough time in the evenings now that DS is in Y1 and we have to do spellings and reading as well as tea, play and bath. Play was getting seriously curtailed and I didn't think it was fair.

oliveoil · 14/02/2007 21:10

I do 9am-4pm, leave at 8, back home for 5

works for me as it means I can be home to sort tea out etc (although sometimes I would rather NOT be there)

(I didn't know you went back to work enid)

Beauregard · 14/02/2007 21:10

4 afternoons 2-6.

Hulababy · 14/02/2007 21:10

I work 17.5 hours a week (0.5 contract):

Tuesday - 8:25 to 3:55 (30 min lunch)
Wed/Thurs - 8:25 to 2:10 (20 min lunch)

I leave the house at 6:50am in a morning to get there on time (takes about 1h15m) and then it takes me about an hour to get home. Dh takes DD to school in a morning; I collect. On a Tuesday I pick DD up from her friend's house.

FrayedKnot · 14/02/2007 21:11

I work every morning Mon-Fri 8.30-12.30.

Work is 8 miles away, nursery en route. Journey (including nursery drop off) in morning takes 30-40 mins, return journey at lunchtime takes 20 mins.

It works well for me, but when DS goes to school will change hours to fit round school hours.

noseyoldbag · 14/02/2007 21:11

Mon to Fri. Start 8.15 ish , leave usually 5 ish, sometimes earlier (teacher)At home, Couple of hours of an evening on average.

oliveoil · 14/02/2007 21:11

3 days, I forgot to say on my previous post

Winestein · 14/02/2007 21:13

I generally work 2 days a week and leave around 7 and get home around 19:30/20:00. Its a 60 mile round trip, which is why I choose to do long days instead of going in 3 days.

For what it's worth, I love the drive though. Gives me chance to play my music at my volume and think about the things I want to think about.

winestein, I am with you on that.

Commuting time is music time for me too.

Love it!

mymatemax · 14/02/2007 21:45

23.5 HRS. 10-4.30 4 DAYS (4PM on Friday)
works well as I can always drop them at school & playschool & work is only a five minute drive.

Twinklemegan · 14/02/2007 21:48

I do 8 to 4.30ish five days a week. We live 2 miles away from work. I really like knowing I can get home for lunch occasionally and that I'm not too far away. Before I had DS I used to commute 60 miles there and back, until we moved, and I swear I would never ever do it again. I don't fancy commuting at all now - for me it would make the working day much too long.
