Any Occupational Therapists here?

Just looked into that, and thinking it might be just what I like to do.
I am a Nurse, but am not registered anymore, due to break from Nursing.
Trying to work out what I would really like to do with my future, and I know I could just do my return to Nursing course and hope for the best, i.e. a Job in my prefered field within sort of normal hours...(my dreamjob as a ordinary nurse would be working with the elderly in a day Hospital setting), or going back into Nursing and one day training to HV, or do something different.
Anyway what is it like when you are a Occupational Therapist?

When I'm not on maternity leave, I work for these people but am not actually an OT:

Generally I get the impression that OTs really enjoy what they do. Helping someone to achieve independent living (as opposed to helping them while they are sick) is very rewarding and I know a lot of OTs who are truly inspirational people. Pay is prob on a par with nursing. You'd have to do a conversion course though - a miminum of 2 years study normally.

Couldn't get link to work. It's www.cot.org.uk

I don't think I can do the conversion course, as I am not registered, unless I regain my registration and then work for a while, etc....so, training for 3 years is not my problem...iykwim...
but glad you feel that op's seem to be passionate about it!
Must say, I have met op's whilest working on a geriatric ward over here (as AN) and thought they were brill, but didn't really know what exactly their job was...i.e. there is no german comarison of that job, iykwim....

Don't think you would have to regain registration to do a conversion course. have a look on the COT website under 'how to become an OT' - it also explains what OTs do in m,ore detail.

Ty that would of course be even better, as slightly shorter...2 years instead of 3 I think
I have E-mailed the Northampton Uni about it and explained my situation/experience...so, shall see what they come up with

I really like the diversity of it all...something that, of course you can have in Nursing, too....but it's not always easy to get the perfect Job...I really can't see myself working shifts on wards...I found shiftwork tiring when I didn't have family responsibilities, but with 3 Kids and a dh who hasn't got a 9-5 Job (Armed Forces), I find I would like the work I do to be more regular hours.
How are job prospects after finishing Uni? I mean, is it relatively easy to find a job, etc...( I mean, I know it somewhat depends on the qualitys you bring, etc...)
How does Uni work over here....i.e... Placements and theory...how is that broken up? And theory at Uni, what sort of hours is one looking at...i.e. generally 9-5 or schoolhours, etc...?
