Do you have a pension? How to sort one out if you're self employed?

I've been self employed for almost a year and now that the work seems to have settled into a regular pattern and enjoying it etc I feel like I need to get my pension going again.

I had a teachers pension for about 8-9 years. But I'm not teaching anymore so guess I need to start a new private pension?

I haven't got the foggiest on where to start though! BlushConfused

You should easily be able to start paying in to your own - just google "stakeholder pensions" - lots of advice and providers where you can set one up yourself - just a couple of hours of google research and you're done.

Alternatively, you could consult an independent financial advisor, which I'd advise if you are unsure about what to do with the teachers pension - you may or may not be better to transfer it to your own stakeholder pension, or it may be best to leave it until maturity and set a separate one up for your s/e. I suppose it depends on the value of your teachers pension and future benefits from it. Mostly, they're more generous so you're best to keep them separate, but you may benefit from a second opinion from a specialist.
