P45 question - please can anyone help?

I have been employed by my place since February this year, and have handed in my notice, 3 months, and starting a new place in January.

I recently found my P45 from the job before current one in a pile of paperwork Blush

Question: do I need to send it to my current employer so it can 'go through' them before it then gets regenerated for the new place? Or can I not bother?

Clueless, hoping a wise MNer can help Blush

As I understand your post, the P45 in question relates to an earlier tax year ie before 06/04/16, therefore your current employer doesn't need it now.

Thank you Rocky Smile

If you've been in the job since February your current employer does not need your old P45. It won't be of any use to them now. Your new employer will only need the P45 from your current job.

Thanks! I was thinking they need to be in some sort of chain, where an old one is needed before a new one can be generated IYSWIM.

Glad to know its a non-issue Smile

Oncemore just to add to this, the FormP45 is to tell your new employer how much earnings and tax you have made/paid in your current role up to the time of leaving. This gives the new employer a starting point for your new job. It means in theory they get your deductions right from day 1.

So your out of date P45 isn't helpful as its no longer accurate. It's a bit like looking at a 6 month old bank statement, it does reflect the current situation

Sorry, it doesn't reflect ....
