I am so fed up for the past few months i have been trying to find a job, i could work 9 to 5, monday to friday, i keep applying for jobs and wait to see, but people are so inconsiderate that they don't even bother replying even if it is a no. I am thinking what am i doing wrong? My friend got a job at B&Q and i applied and they turned me down, i am so cross. i just want a job, but i can't seem to get anything. so upset.

Really sorry you are having troubles, must be very frustrating Have you tried the job centre maybe??? They should be able to match up your skills to any vacancies they have available.

Soulfly
What about sainsburys tescos m&s etc. They are always recruiting and usually are quite flaxible on hours etc.

What experience do you have that you might be able to use?

Maybe it's worth asking to speak to the manager at b&q and asking him/her why they didn't hire you. Maybe there is something obviously wrong with your cv? Have you had someone with a bit of experience in these things look at it.

Definitely think it's worth asking for feedback from managers. I have done this in the past and it's really useful. It could just be the luck of the draw, but you need to be sure your cv is ok, so get that checked out too.. Local councils often have free career advice services so it's worth phoning up and asking about them.

Thanks all, been to the job centre and I look on line at jobcentre direct which is good. I know how to do a cv.
I have done all sorts before i had kids, i worked in a hairdressers as a trainee, domestic assistant, clerical assistant where i did a nvq in administration and cough cough a chicken factory. I would like to work in an office i think mostly, but at the moment i would take anything. lol.

I know it is crap work but have you looked at bar work/kitchen assistant? always seem to have loads, and Carers jobs?

Freckle · 15/06/2004 09:52

Sometimes it helps to hand-deliver your cv and application - directly to the manager if possible. Once they've seen you, you've a much better chance of being picked as you can convey so much more than can be done on a piece of paper. Good luck.

Soulfly, you say, "I know how to do a cv", but it always worth getting your CV checked by someone whose job it is to appoint people. It may be something very straightforward that can be easily sorted. If B+Q had vacancies and still didn't hire you, you need to find out why- only the manager can tell you the reason- ask for an appointment to discuss it with him/ her. If you can't get an appointment, write, you're not losing anything.
