Please let me know if you think I could word anything better etc.

Thanks

Dear Committee Members

It is with regret that I am sending this letter as notice of my resignation as Health & Safety Rep on the XX Pre-School Committee.

Although I was pregnant when I was nominated for the post I did not think it would be a problem to carry out the duties, working round my husbands shifts.

However since the arrival of my baby in December I have found very little time for anything else. And as he was born with a mild condition that makes him susceptible to any respiratory diseases (in his first year) I?m uncomfortable bringing him into pre-school with me to carry out any health and safety checks etc, where he will be likely to come into contact with children who may have colds and coughs.

In addition I will be returning to work at the end of May so will have even less time to commit to other things.

As such I feel that to continue in the role would be to do a dis-service to the children of XX as well as letting down the staff and fellow Committee members.

It had been my intention to introduce a new Risk Assessment, a copy of which the Committee did approve as well as re-organise the health and safety files so it was easier to access specific information etc. However I have not even had the time to do this.

Therefore I will carry out a health and safety check on the first week after this half term. But this will be my last act as Health & Safety Rep.

I will return any documents I have relating to XX and the Committee when I do the check.

Perhaps when my son is of pre-school age I would be in a better position to take up the post if needed.

I apologise for letting you down and hope you will find a more successful replacement.

Yours sincerely

Hi LFMS- I would edit the letter somewhat if it were me. You do not need to offer them a detailed explanation as to why you are unable to continue in the role. I would focus on the positives you have found working with them and things you feel you accomplised while there, especially if as you suggest at the end you would like to leave the door open for a possible return in the future. As it stands, the tone of the letter suggests that you are overwhelmed by both your home and work responsibilities, and unable to manage either to your satisfaction. In your position, I would merely state that my situation has changed significantly since appointment, and that it is with regret that I am unable to continue in the role. I would also put in writing the proposed changes you wished to make and offer to discuss them with the new appointee. You do not need to apologise nor should you cast yourself in the light of an unsucessful appointee - how could they possibly consider you for another position in the future if you have such a negative view of your brief tenure with them? Stay positive, Good luck.

faithfully, not sincerely. Disservice, not 'dis-service'.

Dear all, I am writing to offer my resignation as Health and Safety rep. I've really enjoyed working with you all, but my personal circumstances have changed since my son was born in December, and I shall be returning to work in May.
Before I leave I am happy to carry out a health and safety check on the first week after this half term. As you know, I drafted a new Risk Assessment and planned a reorganisation of hte health and safety files, and I will return the paperwork concerning both these matters in the hope my successor will be able to implement them.
I hope to work with you again in the future.
Best wishes

XXXX

Aloha's is great. Succinct and polite.
You deffo don't need to write as much. You sound too apologetic when you have been doing a voluntary role after all.

OK can someone now tell me about my apostrophe??? Did I even need one? (sigh)

LowFatMilkshake · 09/02/2007 20:08
