Carers leave?

Not sure if i am posting this in the right place.
Just wondering what do you do if one of your children are ill and off school
For a couple of days and you have to take 4 days off. Do you get unpaid leave, carers leave, holidays?

Why would you need 4 days off if they are only off school for a couple of days?
Do you want the legal position or personal experiences?

In our company, we would expect both parents to share the burden of emergency childcare, but we class it as sick so it comes off their paid allowance unless they prefer to take it as holiday/unpaid so that it doesn't affect their sick leave records.

Dad working away, not an option for him to come home. Dd in hospital so have to stay with her for 4 days

Special paid leave. We get up to 10 days each year.

Husband has to take it as unpaid leave.

You're legally entitled to emergency parental leave, however there aren't any guidelines as to how many days etc - that's down to employer discretion. They will usually have a policy that states you're options - mainly annual leave or unpaid leave.

You are entitled to emergency unpaid leave to rearrange care for a dependent. It would be a hard hearted employer indeed though that wouldn't let you at least take unpaid leave for a child in hospital

We usually allow up to 2 days off and expect you to source alternative childcare during that time.

As somebody said above, we expect the burden of care to be shared between both parents and it's not expected that you only return to work when your child is better.

The toughest ones are when the child has chicken pox and the parents think it's OK to be off with them the entire time they have it.

However, if a child was unexpectedly ill and in hospital we wouldn't expect the above but for planned operations we would expect care to be arranged after the initial couple of days.

Why can't your DD's dad come home to do his share given that she is / will be in hospital?
