Have been thinking about doing the CPE/LPC courses for ages now but not sure how practical it is - i could do it distance learning P/T with the weekend course bits cunningly in the city where i live - but i'm not sure how much time this would take up in terms of reading/writing essays etc. I had one ds who is 3 months currently but would start it when he is nearly one. Is this a good or crazy idea?!
p.s. think i could manage childcare with dh and MIL if it wasn't tooooo often..
thanks!

you can pm me if you want - I have done this - however I am afraid I would n't advise any woman to go into the law nowadays - just my opinion but think this very much depends on what you want to do when you quailify and how much debt you may get into while retraining.

sorry if i am being thick - but what does pm mean?! thanks! Hmmm think i am interested in family and/or immigration law and may be able to find some of the money without getting into debt but would def like to hear more! Cheers.

CG, both Family and Immigration law are relatively low paid areas of law and Family law is competitive to get into.
(Have to say that this was true of North West and Midland legal marketplaces 18mths ago, when I was working in Legal recruitment but had been like that for ever before that!)

Do you know of anyone in the legal field already? It helps to have contacts and you could get some work experience and ultimately a training contract.

There is the Ilex course where you could train to be a Legal Executive and work at the same time, Family Law is an area well covered by the Ilex course.

thanks Lizzylou - yeah about 70% of my family are lawyers (!!) but have all started off in Law (not re-trained into it) - and they are mostly doing the low-paid end of things in Legal Aid etc so i know all about the low pay..!
i think it will be the ILEX course if i do any at all - but can you just do the course without having to be a leal exec first?
Oh dear LO is shrieking i had better go..
thanks!

CG, yes you can, but it would be better to get some work experience too, but you seem to be well-connected so shouldn't be a problem!
The Ilex bods are all very helpful and will guide you along, have a look at their website.
Good luck!
