I absolutely love my job, it inspires me. I've been doing it for about 5 years now and it wasn't a promotion when I got it so am ready for the next challenge. But I'm nervous about straying too far and as I work for a large organisation I'll stay internal if possible.
I havey boss's backing and she is getting me onto the right projects. I am keeping a log of "good stuff I've done", making sure it gets on my appraisals. I am reading round my area of specialism endlessly.
Is there anything more I could be doing?
Is anyone in a similar situation?
Why isn't there a relevant topic for just general work issues that aren't "employment" as such? :o

Did they give you feedback as to why?

Just got a rejection for what would have been an amazing step up career wise Sad

Oh I am so sorry. Did you get feedback?
Yes I got some lovely feedback today in fact, apparently I was second choice (although first choice was the clear favourite). Got given some very useful advice. Turned what was a disappointing experience into a fairly positive one.

They said they'd decided to recruit internally, however from what I've gathered from a few others who work there that's their standard reason when they decide to not hire anyone, the role was quite specialist, senior and in a newly created team so it would surprising if they had someone doing another unrelated role yet still had the expertise for this one, not really a helpful response!

Stealth you sound very very similar to me. I'm guessing public sector....
I'm sorry you didn't get your job, but it's good to get feedback and make it into a positive.
I had a very successful secondment which would've paid off career-wise but got called back to my old team due to 'needs of the organisation' Angry
So am now going through a similar process to you, career wise. Happy to share progress on here.
