Any ideas would be welcome!
Any experience, and what works what doesn't, how much can you ear wiht what you do, etc...!
Need to earn some money, but having 3 Kids and Hubby not in regular working hours (and indeed he is now oging to be away for 6 month anyway), etc...find it difficult to find a regular job that would pay enough!

oh yes I'd like some ideas aswell,ds due to start school in september.

gemmum · 28/01/2007 21:50

My two dd's are 18m and 30m so i don't really get any child free time whic does really limit what i can do from home. As i want to be with them and not ignoring them iykwim.

I am an Usborne team leader and have found that works for me as i can take them with me to most places where they actually enjoy themselves! (playgroups/softplay centers) and then do admin/parties of an evening. I have done some work in schools but think i'll be able to 'attack' this more once i have a little child free time.

I make all my own bookings which means i choose my own hours and how much work i want to take on. There's no monthly targets.

Earnings... well as with most commision based jobs they can obviously vary hugely compared to how many hours you put in. What i earn is certainly enough to make a difference, it paid for christmas and i hope to pay for our holidays next year. Top organisers earn 1000's each week.

I can give you more information and my website details if you drop me an email [email protected] There's also lots of other ideas on www.mumandworking.co.uk

Best of luck, gemma

3andnomore, is your hubby still in the forces (we had a chat about this on another thread - I am in germany and home alone too for a tour right now)? I sell Phoenix cards - if i put my mind to it, I can earn £400 a month, which is not bad for a second job, especially when i can do the orders on the sofa whilst watching telly, but the best thing is there is no minimum sales target to stay current, and if you don't want to work as hard one month you don't have to. I looked at all the direct sales stuff and plumped for Phoenix becuase at the end of the day, if it doesn't work out, the outlay is minimal and you can always use the cards yourself if you give up and have some stock left over!

frenziednester · 28/01/2007 22:26

I also got a book from Amazon called 'A little bit on the side' which goes through over 500 options for second income jobs, which was an interesting read.

3andnomore · 28/01/2007 22:45

Thank you!
And yes dh is still in the Army, and off to Afghanistan next weekend!

take a look at my advert on the Jobs section

"work from Home selling childrens books"

there is loads and loads of info on there

frenziednester · 29/01/2007 15:47

it's rubbish, isn't it. I've got a 4 month gap between him coming home from this one and off to iraq for the next one (and a move and baby to have in the middle......such is life). I hope he keeps safe out there.

3andnomore · 29/01/2007 19:48

OMG, you poor thing, you got a bit of a stressful time ahead then, hope all goes well for you...must say, we have been quite lucky over the past few years, so, shouldn't complain really, I suppose...BUT this is the first time where we are not living in Married Quarters anymore, surrounded with people in the same boat, etc...but yeah, such is life!

Is is better living back in the real world, or do people not rally around as much? Are you close to family who can help?

3andnomore · 30/01/2007 10:23

lol...hm...it has it's advantages, and we do have a few lovely neighbours, which is nice. Also, we are near to dh's Family now, but obviously all mine is in Germany, hohum, lol...!
In general, other than moneywise (bloody morgage,etc...so a lot less then before, sigh), I don't find it all that different, I must admit, but then, I had always kept myself to myself and not been all that involved in Army wives activities, etc..., lol...but, I think with Pete being away it might be more noticable, as well, no Family officer you can have a moan too when you need some help, etc...!

I've just started another thread in parenting called 'any other forces wives out there' if you are interested...... I'm doing a course in german atm with a view to getting a degree, which I am really enjoying, but the grammar is frying my last remaining braincells!!!!!!!

ItsMeMellowma · 30/01/2007 17:50

You should try jobcentreplus.com and in the Keyword, search engine, type home and see what comes up..There are a few jobs on there atm.

3andnomore · 01/02/2007 16:14

frenzie, which section is that thread in, lol!
If you need help with german, you can always E-mail me....although, even though I am german, I have forgotten a lot of the grammar rules, etc...as one does if not using, lol!
My E-mail is:
realjolie @ yahoo dot de

So I sell French childrens clothes, i fit the parties round my family, even have them at my house! S maybe this could be an option? - You get to keep the clothes!!! How fab is that.

I do chocolate parties and sell via chocolate parties, brochure sales, events etc.

I have an ad in the small business section if you want to have a look at details there

Is there anything that you have a specific interest in? It helps if you are enthusiastic, like/ enjoy what you are doing
