Can I apply for a fixed term contract when pregnant?

If appointed, I would start the job at around 10-12 weeks pregnant. The job is advertised to run until as-yet-unborn DC will be about a fortnight old. Going by previous pregnancies, I will need to go on mat leave at about 34 weeks, so would in effect need to leave the job 2 months early - I would therefore only be there 5-6 months.

Would it be illegal/unethical for me to apply?

Yeah definitely apply. You need a job, nothing else to think about really.

Like the OP, I work in a field where all that is on offer are fixed term contracts. I found out I was pregnant the day after I was offered a job (dc1), and for my second dc I found out on my second day at work.

I don't feel guilty at all. No one enters a job for life and not all pregnancies are viable.

Apply. What have you got to lose? Most people start job hunting towards the end of a ft contract and can leave early because of that. No difference really!

I applied... and have now been engulfed by a tsunami or morning sickness. No way could I attend an interview let alone do a job like this, and given the very short length of the contract, I know they will need and expect someone who can whizz energetically and efficiently into the post and hit the ground at 100mph. Unless today proves an unfortunate one-off, I may have had the decision made for me.

Erni is this your first child? Morning sickness can last a few days/weeks/months for the unlucky. Please don't be swayed just yet!

Good luck.

What Scary said!

Hopefully sickness won't last. For what it's worth, I don't think there is a time in my life where I had more energy, creativity and looked as good as I did in my second trimester of both pregnancies!

Hope you feel better soon.

No, it's my third. First two, I was floored until about 14 weeks Hmm

You can apply for it, but be prepared for them to be annoyed when they figure out that you always knew you weren't going to be able to complete the term of the contract.
