I'm just wondering if anyone has made a big career change after having children, which involved a reasonable amount of training? If so, how old were your children when you starting training, and how did you find it?
Before having my oldest, I worked in academia. I had spent several years doing research and tutoring, and was working towards a PhD when he was born. I had known for some time that it wasn't the career I wanted to stick with, and due to DHs long hours, I decided not to go back.
I now have a one year old and a three year old and am thinking about what I'll do in the future. I am thinking about something in mental health (possibly psychology or occupational therapy), but don't know when would be the best time to think about embarking on training.
Would it be crazy to start a full-time PG degree as soon as the smallest starts school? I'm thinking about starting a psychology conversion course via distance learning in 2017, but it's the next, more committed step I am less sure about. I know if I were to peruse psychology I would need to work as an assistant for a while, which might be a better idea for a few years.
