Doesn't anywhere give anyone a chance nowadays

I may be going back to college in September but as i'm not 100% sure i have been looking for a job too.
I have always been interested in the travel industry (despite it's crap pay) but it seems i'm completely unemployable everywhere.

I don't have any experiance true, but i am a decent hardworking person and would undertake any training needed.

I have applied online to two travel agenices that have vacancies in my town, but as soon as i put that i've got no experiance then i get a firm thanks but no thanks.

One company was advertsing NVQ training in their window so i enquired, but apparently i'm to old (25) and they glazed over when i said i had 3 kids.

All i want is a chance, is that really to much to ask. How am i ever going to get any experiance in anything if no one is prepared to give me a chance.

Nutcracker, i know exactly how you feel. I too am looking for a job, but i haven't worked for 7 years or so. I have done jobs before and I did a nvq in administration, but it was soo long ago. I also have kids too.
I don'[t know what to say really, i have applied for jobs but also got a no thankyou and some didn't even bother replying at all.

It does get you down when all you get is a no.

Keep trying thats what i would suggest, and thats what i am doing. After all you have to start somewhere don't you?

It's very difficult, isn't it? If you get no joy on the job front, could you try doing some voluntary work? It helps plump out the CV and can involve some training too.

Have you ever had a holiday abroad?

If you have, then you have loads of experience! Talk yourself up a bit, you obviously know how to type and use the internet and those are the two key requirements to book holidays for people. That and a friendly, confident disposition should get you an interview.

If you approach it from the perspective that they want someone who is able to book holidays online and take personal details from customers in a neat, ordered fashion then you are an ideal candidate.

My dh finishes work today for a travel company where he employs 60 people to book holidays all day long 364 days of the year. Rocket science it ain't.

Frontline sales require friendliness and a smart appearance. Phone the travel agents with jobs and get them to post an application to you. Talk yourself up in the application (Yes I do have experience of booking holidays from a customers perspective and understand how the system works on a basic level but my real strengths are my ability to use the internet confidently and talk to customers so that I really understand what they need from their holiday....) and hand it over to the shop manager personally. Make sure that you look really smart with no kids in tow.

Tell the manager that you will look forward to hearing when your interview is!
