Is this fair?

Redundancy: is this fair?

Major contract lost, everyone on consultation.

4 out of 24 staff involved in the decision making. They are all staying in their roles.

Very short consultation - first meeting with decision shared at second meeting less than 2 weeks later.

I was told my role was redundant.

Those who were in and out came out of the meetings with a clear understanding of whether they were in or out.

I cannot see how the scoring system apparently applied could possibly have resulted in the positive outcome for some and negative for others if there was any robustness or objectivity involved.

A couple of days later I am told the redundancy was provisional and I can apply for one of the remaining roles, even though people have already clearly been offered those roles.

I suggest an application/appeal will not be fair based on the person involved leading the original process and the apparent irregularity in the scoring process and ask how I can be confident the appeal process would be different from the original process.

The reponse is an acceptance I don't want to appeal.

Are you in a union?

bluecashmere · 04/04/2016 19:52

Hi butteredmuffin. No. No such thing in my industry.

And no HR department

Hmm. I think you need some professional advice. The Citizens' Advice Bureau are really good for this sort of thing.

(Not professional as such, they are mostly staffed by trained volunteers, but they really do know their stuff.)

It doesn't sound right to me

Call ACAS to talk it through

Although it won't help you now, that's not true. There may not be a recognised union, (employers only have to recognise a union if a certain number of employees are members - can't remember the threshold) - but you can still be a union member, and they can support you as an individual.

You have the right to see the measures and the scoring and how they came to that decision (no details on others obv but how far off the mark you were). You also have the right to understand how they have pooled roles (grouped them together based on similarities). Happy for you to PM me if it would be helpful.
