Dream Job Interview and Might be Pregnant!

Can anyone advise? I have a really stressful job, stressful in not enough peolpe and too much work, too many last minute unrealistic deadlines. I have only been there just over a year working four days a week and there was four of us now theres two.

My dh and I decided to try for another baby (we have a 2.4 yr old). I would have then stuck the job and then looked for something else after Id had the baby. Just before xmas things were really bad at work and I applied for a wonderful local job thats more pay (pro rata) and only two days a week. I was offered an interview which I was going to decline because we've already started ttc and Ive never had any problems before (2 teenagers from previous marriage).

Towards the end of last year I set up my own wedding business, as my job was so bad. I have had so many enquiries since xmas I cant believe it so I really could do with getting this new job as its fewer days.

Now I know that theres a lot of ifs and buts, but knowing my luck I'll get the job and find out Im pregnant. So if thats the case does anyone know if theres a minimum amount of maternity leave you have to take as I would both feel awful about starting a new job being newly pregnant and taking 6 months off and I wouldnt be entitled to maternity pay?

I just dont know whether to cancel the interview

Can anyone help, please?

Go for the interview, you can ponder more on your decision if you get it. You may not be pg and would rthen really regret it. If you are pg then that's life and they have to deal with it. Hard but true I'm afraid.

You will only be entitled to basic statutary mat leave, 1 week full pay, 5 at 90% + some at £100 ish a week (but do not think you get full 6 months) Not sure how loong you are entitled to take off though

Go for the interview, take the job if offered. Check on the tiger.gov.uk site for your rights, but I think you'd be ok. Plus you could use wedding business money to cover any shortfall.

go for the interview whatever - its never a waste of time meeting someone in your line of work.

the minimum amount that you HAVE to take is 6 weeks post birth.

Go for the interview as you might not be pregnant. However, if you find out you are pregnant then I would pull out immediately. I think it is highly deceptive to conceal a pregnancy, knowing full well you are going to stuff your employers good and proper within a short space of time. It will put you in a very awkward position and undoubtedly cause very bad relations. If you are the dream candidate, you could always approach them a year or so down the line when the time is right. If you are stressed now, I cant imagine how stressful it would be to accept a job then have to drop the pregnancy bombshell on them.

Go for it. Being pregnant shouldn't preclude anyone from earning a living.

I disagree with trifle completely btw, I don't see any problem with going for and getting a job while you're pregnant. Being pregnant doesn't mean you're not entitled to earn a living imo. But you don't know if you are yet so it's a moot point!

I think I will go for the interview and if:

  1. I dont get it I wont look for anymore jobs until Ive had a baby
  2. I do get it and Im not pregnant I will wait for about 6 months before we try again
  3. I do get it I am pregnant I will tell them straight away. You never know they may be ok with it as the job is in a maternity hospital!

Thanks for all your advice.
