Becoming a florist

How do you become a florist/flower arranger etc?
Do you just go to a wholesaler and buy some flowers and sundries etc and try and work out how to tie them up? Considered this as career option but can't find any useful books in library, no vacancies at florists, and the only course is in the next town (no transport) - no online ones. Do you have to learn from someone else or just try and do it?

Um.... best to go on a course its a lot more complicated then it sounds. If you want to get an idea of what is involved join a flower arranging club.

Some florists will take on trainees, and you can work your way up. If nothing else open at the moment there are loads of books on the subject, try charity shops as well as the library. A club sounds a great idea, try the local church and see if the flower rota want any help too.

You will need to get tape, oasis and wires etc. Getting a card for your nearest wholesaler shouldn't be to hard and some of the big ones have demo days and should be happy to help you selct the basics.
