Is no paid holiday legal?

My DH went for a job interview today and was told that the job had no paid holiday. I was under impression that there was a legal entitlement to a certain amount of paid annual leave. How would an employer get away with this?

The job was as an oven technician and involved a fair bit of sales - a reasonable proportion of the OTE pay involved 'up-selling' to clients.

No that's not legal - any employee or casual worker is entitled to 5.6 weeks' paid holiday annually

Some firms seem to get round this by saying their employees are self employed. Or contracting them for a certain number of hours. It doesn't sound very good though. Or saying the wages were commission and paying people nothing if they don't sell anything. Awful.
