NHS new job. What date do I put down for last day - to keep continuous service?

Hi,

I haven't got a start date yet but I need to make sure the date is correct (for my last day) so that I don't lose out on long service history (20 yrs nearly). If the new job started on the Monday 21st March, for example, would I put (in my notice) last day Sunday 20th or the Friday 18th?

I would put the sunday. Then it's clear that there is continuity.

NHS pay is calculated over a 365 day year.

As your last working day will be a Friday (presuming you are a Monday to Friday worker) your last day of service should be extended to the Sunday.
This is only done if you are leaving to go to another NHS employer though.
Have you taken into account any outstanding annual leave?

Are you staying in the same hospital or moving to another one? If you're staying then I wouldn't worry about it because your post won't actually be terminated, you'll just be transferred. If you're leaving then I would agree with agree with PPs and put the Sunday.

Moving to a new hospital and we do work 7 days a week. I will have to check my annual leave as I do have some days left.
