WWYD - embarrassing job interview situation

I'm considering applying for a new job so I arranged to meet the manager today to have a chat about the job, see round the office etc.

I made a total mess of parking my car outside the office and scuffed the car in the next parking space. So I went to reception and told them what had happened, turns out the car I scuffed belonged to the manager I was due to meet!

I met the manager, explained what happened, she was v nice about it, "not to worry I'm sure it's fine, let's just have a chat about the job" so we then had a nice chat about the job. I left my details in case her car needed fixed at the garage.

I'm totally mortified about it, should I:
a) dust myself off and go ahead with the job application or
b) forget about applying for the job as I've made an arse of things

It's not essential that I get this job but it's a very good job that I think I'd enjoy and a significantly shorter commute so better work/life balance etc...

Absolutely go ahead.

You made a mistake, owned up, did all the right things and the manager was fine about it.

Good luck.

Yes do it. These things happen

Diamogs · 23/01/2016 08:10

Forgot to say good luck

You did the right thing- go for it. If you hadn't owned up it would be a no way! You have already demonstrated honesty and many other key interview skills!

Thanks everyone for your replies, good to get some perspective!

Crack on with it! You did the right thing.

They'll certainly remember you when you application drops onto their desk Grin which can't hurt at all and doing the right thing about the car bump (admitting, leaving details) puts you in a very positive light.

MagicalHamSandwich · 23/01/2016 16:17

Go ahead by all means.

She said it was fine, take her by her word. If this were me (and I often interview people) I'd probably appreciate your honesty in reporting the incident to reception and give you a mental brownie point for it. I'd also probably hold it against you if you hadn't said anything or were overly nonchalant about it, TBH, but you did neither of these things.

Thanks everyone for your responses, yes, I did think they'd remember me when my application arrives 😁
