do I need to pay tax on this cleaning job?

My colleague at work has complained about her messy and dirty kitchen and how she needs a cleaner.
I mentioned I used to be a self employed cleaner (many years ago) and in between discussing cleaning products etc, I offered to come by and spend a few hours in her kitchen.
She is ill a lot and unable to see to things herself. I live 10 minutes away so I am more than happy to do it.
We agreed I would spend 2-3 hours and she would give me £20 for the job.

No tax etc is needed surely?

You have to declare all earnings, so it depends how much you're earning as an employee in your usual job. If you earn over about £10K a year you're over the tax threshold and therefore should pay tax on anything else you earn. It would be declared on your self-assessment tax return.

And of course, we know that everyone who does casual cash in hand work declares all their earnings...

If you have a regular job and are PAYE, quite honestly I wouldn't bother.

Not worth the hassle.
