OH GOD! WHAT HAVE I DONE?????

I am due back at work in 2.5 weeks. I love my job, I really really do and when I go back, I will be working just 4 days a week instead of 5 (we can't afford for me to go half time, and this seemed the best compromise)
But now I am beginning to really really panic and get upset about it. I don't want to go back, I like being at home and going to baby groups, doing the grocery shop, being the 50's housewife and all that, which I never thought I would. My childcare arrangements are in place and couldn't be better, I know she will really take good care of him, but I want to do that - what if he likes being with her more than with me???
And my four days will be really long days, I will leave the house about 6.45am and not get in until about 6pm, I'll hardly see him (though his big brother or dad will generally have collected him by then, so its not as if he will be at the CM's all that time, plus his daddy works part shifts, so it won't be four full days anyway)
And my boss has been out to see me to bring me up to speed and I feel like everything has changed and I know nothing about my job or department anymore. Its worse than starting a new job, cos I will have to unlearn stuff, rather than just learn new stuff
I am in a right tizz now, incase you can't tell
Oh God, Oh God, Oh God

Okay Champs, our morning mantra is "it'll be fine, it'll be fine, it'll be fine" (until some bastard cuts me up on the M62 )
I'm only working mornings this week - not sure if thats going to help or make it worse...
I'm leaving the house about 6.45am, spare me a thought - or if you are as lazy as essbee, about 7.45 when I arrive at work
How about you?

Lisa,
Haven't got time to read all the posts on here (too busy at work at the mo) but I really feel for you me dear.

Went back full time after Easter and, as several threads on MN testify, almost didn't make it through. Cried lots the first 2 weeks but eventually found a balance. Still trying to find my feet at work, which is silly really as I know what I'm doing. I guess I just don't want to be here....... but as with everyone, we need the money. I leave the house at 7 and pick DS up at 5.45, so not dissimilar to you. I work from home one day a week, so I get to see him for a few more hours before the Grandparents whisk him away.

The extra day will make a lot of difference, I will cut down to 4 days as soon as I have confirmation that neither DH or I will be made redundant (bad timing or what!).

Just remember, you're doing it for him. It hurts us more than the babes. My mum worked when I was young and I really don't remember her not being there.

You will find a balance and you are his mummy, nobody else can ever take your place in his eyes.

(This is what DH keeps telling me, and I believe him)

Hugs and stuff
BR

Hope all went well today for both of you.
I officially started back to work today but have taken 3 weeks holiday to have longer at home dreading the 28th June when I go back, let me know how it went...

Lisa78 · 07/06/2004 16:42

AWWW, thanks everybody
I'm only working mornings this week so I had the morning at work and the afternoon at home - and I know which one I prefer. Luckily, DH was on a late today, so I didn't have to leave DS2 with the cm - he was only there 2 hours

As for work, urgh. Thats not how I left it... its such a mess, its going to take me ages to get organised
