I've only ever taught.

I went from school to uni, to PGCE, to teaching for 10 years.
I quit when we relocated 2 years ago and I'm not going back to being a teacher. It's too much work and stress that impacts heavily on my own dcs - and I was only doing 0.4 once they arrived!

But I have no idea where to start on a jobs hunt. I can't decide what area to look at. All I know is it will need to be PT and ideally something that allows me to do both school runs. Dh says he would do one/ both if I had a job but really I know that's not always possible and as his job earns/ would earn more that will probably take priority.

I've got no idea where to start looking! Blush

I stepped back from teaching to TA job. It was great for a few years but now my workload is getting closer to what it was as a teacher which I consider ridiculous for minimum wage. I'm now wondering what else I could do. Not sure I'm qualified to do anything else as my MA is also education related. So that's a degree, pgce and an MA and all pretty worthless if I don't want to teach. I will almost certainly leave in the summer though as I am starting to feel emotionally exhausted from it again. Being a qualified teacher is s hindrance in this job as you're often used for cover. None of us are paid HLTA wages so technically it's not in our job description to cover but as I'm qualified I'm always expected to do it.
When I first became a RA I loved it. All the best bits without the stress and the planning. In the last few years it has changed dramatically Sad

dithering pharmacology degrees are not the same as pharmacy degrees. I wouldn't be qualified anymore than the next person. Having said that I will have a look for pharmacy jobs.
Medical science liaison sounds intriguing - mostly because I have no idea what it is! Blush

bessie - that's my worry about a TA job - it'll turn in to a semi- teaching job without the pay! There's a lot expected of TAs now.

Thanks for all the ideas! :)

I've quit and will be leaving at Easter. I'm thinking along the same lines as ChampagneTastes - getting into writing, back to examining, maybe some tutoring, supply at a push. Unlike most teachers I really don't enjoy working with young people as I've found behaviour more and more of a challenge over the last 15 years.
