Surely 25 is the average age you finish a PhD?

The graduates at my work are usually 20. And the post docs when I was one was 25.

No one finishes a degree at 25 unless they have time out.

So whoever says 17 is right. You start school at 4 and finishes around 21.

HeadDreamer · 12/12/2015 14:19

And GCHQ leaders might not all go out and network. They hire a lot of geeks to spy in this increasingly online world. You may well be a leader of geeks. Like Jen in the IT crowd.

Can we have more jobs in Edinburgh Scotland, please?

notmynameohno · 14/12/2015 21:25

I actually think that's quite a broad selection of opportunities & better P/T choices than usual. Had a look at the jobs page though and only four ads for roles in our county. Harsh reality of living in the north and the compromises of family life.

lljkk · 14/12/2015 21:46

This job looks so cool, I could do it in my sleep, but I bet pay is rubbish.

OneofTHOSEWomen · 15/12/2015 10:02

Indeed it does lljk , think I will apply for that. MNHQ is there any way to search for work from home jobs? I don't see any, I'm currently using my location to limit the jobs I search for so am missing out on jobs like these but see no way of pulling these out from the massive list.

plantsitter · 18/12/2015 20:27

No voluntary stuff please! Not in with the other stuff anyway. It should be a completely separate section. If you're looking for work you're not looking to work for free.

Tindel · 19/12/2015 03:23

lljkk I used to do that kind of work in my first full-time graduate job and during my placement year. I had a few other responsibilities as well, but can confirm the pay was rubbish then, so doubt it will have improved much

GooseFriend · 19/12/2015 07:41

Support the need for salary details.

I also think voluntary roles should be separate! I do a lot of volunteer roles and tbh I think a lot of orgs take the piss in what they expect for free and the level of job-like-ness they expect. That NED role is going to be better for someone where their current employer is gonna pay them to do in as a nod to Corporate-social responsibility.

ThomasRichard · 27/12/2015 12:34

I would love to work for GCHQ but I can't relocate, sadly. So, GCHQ but closer to London.

loopsylala · 28/12/2015 16:29

I've always been uncomfortable with mumsnet jobs. Isn't it the same as advertising for a female only, which is discrimination?

No jobs advertised for Scotland either.

GeordieJeannie · 28/12/2015 22:52

Everything in my area is too high powered for me. After years and years of being a SAHM I can't jump in to anything at such a high level Sad
