NVQ 3 for preschool

I am/was a nurse but because I stopped working when I had my children my registration has just lapsed. To go back to working as a nurse I just have to complete a "Return to practice" which is not something I would mind doing (but I couldn't even think about doing it until we get back the UK in 18 months) or.......I could work as a volunteer in our local preschool where they will pay for me to do my NVQ 3.

I don't know what to do. I see working at Preschool as a chance to get an insight into my children's education (DD is 3 and DS is 1) and also the hours here are 3 hours however many sessions a week I want to do. DD is already at the preschool, the school is huge so I wouldn't need to be in her class and I would only be away from DS for a short period of time.

DH thinks I would find it boring after being a Ward Manager but I disagree. I just wondered if there was anyone out there with any experience of it that could tell me a bit more about it. TIA

Just come across your message. Would suggest posting it over at the Childminding/Nannies section as more likely to get response, as your question is about working in childcare.

If your reason for working isn't to earn money, then working in childcare is a wonderful thing to do... alas it does tend to be poorly paid. I started working in preschool as a volunteer 14 years ago.

I have done almost the same thing myself (my kids are 3 and 4 now). I have studied for the Level 4 this year and am awaiting my results...

I have found it anything but boring. Not great pay but huge flexibility and the course has really helped me understand my own children too.

On my experience, I would say to go for it as it has worked for me!

Going to have an interview for NVQ3 In Childrens Care, Learning & Development and hopefully going to get a bursary for it .

My attitude to work has changed since Ive had children . I was in the police force for a number of years but I dont think I will find this line of career boring. Good luck .
