Hello i am leaving a job next week and have been off sick with anxiety and stress until end of notice period. Got a letter today via recorded delivery wtf? to go in and hand over information. Phoned manager and asked for this to be done in a room out the way. Know its got to be done but ffs!

Not sure what you are complaining about tbh. You know its got to be done, they probably sent the letter recorded to make sure you got it, what's the problem?

I'm sorry I don't understand. What do you have to hand over? Do you mean your sick note?

SoDiana · 13/11/2015 17:34

Faye. They are being cunts. I take it they need information you have etc.
Look at going to a solicitor about constructive dismissal if they are the source of your illness.

Sounds like an HR thing. Make sure you don't have any keys, you leave your manager your to-do list, etc.

I wouldn't let it worry you - you are leaving after all and don't have to work again. What do they say they'll do if you don't attend OP?

MrsCampbellBlack · 13/11/2015 17:40

I don't think they are being unreasonable. You need to give back keys/passes/laptop/whatever and they've sent it recorded to ensure you get it.

I don't understand. You say this is something that has to be done, ie you presumably do have something that needs to be handed over. What would be your preferred option for dealing with that?

Doesn't sound like they've behaved unreasonably (about this issue anyway), but if what they've requested presents difficulties for you, offer another solution.

Why all the "wtf" and "ffs"? How do you think they should have approached this?

Faye12345 · 13/11/2015 20:56

Im wtf and ffs as this job nearly pushed me to the brink and i dont want to go back to the office. If i dont attend they may not pay my final wage and i cant do without that. I will attend but will keep it formal and brief

What do you need to hand over? Can a friend take it or be sent recorded delivery?

DameMargaretofChalfont · 14/11/2015 23:07

If you are signed off sick then you are under no obligation to go into work - whatever the reason they cite.

A letter being sent Recorded Delivery only proves that you have received it - not that you are obliged to act upon it.

I suggest you reply saying that you are unable to attend as requested (due to ill health) but would send details via Email or, if you feel upto it, request a home visit by them (but make sure that you are chaperoned by a trusted family member or friend).

Please do not feel obliged to accommodate them.
