Small organisation, no hr just a volunteer board and vile, toxic boss who is wearing me out

My line manager is the only manager. Above her it's a board of volunteers who have made it clear in the past they will support the manager, regardless. She's chummy with them all, and directs the board so much sometimes it's hard to see who manages who.

She's shut down all communication within the organisation (there's only 12 of us). She has direct responsibility for 5 of us, the rest of the staff have their own manager who she ma ages.

A few months ago, just after she was appointed manager, she maneuvered my colleague out the door by accusing her of bullying. This wasn't true at all but the whole thing was handled terribly. I'm scared I'm next. My manager lies, talks about staff to other staff - so God knows what other people think of me. She set people up to fail, can't take criticism or feedback, ignores me when I come in sometimes, this can go on for most of the day. She's vile. I don't trust her.

I love where I work though, until she was appointed as manager (she'd worked there for a few years) I looked forward to work. I'm only part time but it's in my head full time, I feel sick.

I want to get signed of for a couple of weeks. I know my anxiety and stress is work related but if that goes on a doctor's line she will twist it to make out I can't cope because of the work she's asked me to do. Which I can, it's her I can't cope with.

I've been trying to deal whiteout for months. I can't take it.

There's no where to go with any of this.

To make matters worse I will need to go in to drop and collect my son most days even if I am off. Can I do that?

I am actively looking for something else.

Everyone at work looks beaten down, worn out and fed up. Only myself and 2 others ever try to speak up about things at team meetings and we're shut down, the rest just look down and say nothing.

The atmosphere is terrible.

Is your son at a nursery at your job?

Check with the ACAS helpline about that. I would have thought it would be legally fine. She would take it out on you though.

I would resign and agree an end date slightly longer than the norm (say two months) then put everything you've got into getting another job, whatever it is. Tell all your family and friends, sign up with agencies, anything. I don't think you have a future there.

Yes he attends the nursery in the building. I don't work in that though.

To be fair if you were off work you could just keep him at home...

ForeverLivingMyArse · 10/11/2015 08:33

I don't think that's fair on him. He's not just there so I can work, it's his funded place, his ante pre school year.

He loves it. Why should he miss out because I'm struggling?

Oh god I've just cried on the phone to the doctors. I'm a mess.

Forever i feel for you. How easy would it be to find another job? Could you be unemployed while you look? You need outFlowers

ForeverLivingMyArse · 11/11/2015 09:12

I can't really be without my salary.

I'm looking! There's things out there, just not loads!
