Help with writing

I am trying to write a book at the moment..... its the first time I've done anything like this as before have been looking after 3 small kids and working part-time as a PA. Kids are now at school and whilst I am still working part-time I do have a bit more time on my hands.

I'm really enjoying the time I spend writing but am in desperate need of something to motivate and help me organise my thoughts.

Has anyone got any suggestions? I'd like to know if its worth spending money on a mentor. Companies such as Literacy Consultancy offer services but they seem expensive. Is it worth it?

Any suggestions gratefully received! Thank you.

Birbeck College has/had a course "Academic Writing for postgraduates"

The initial idea of the course is to make a person who would like to write to learn to collect the data/ideas/information in the concise and relevant order, and bring it into the writing.

I did attend it for Ms application. Between all those who were in the course it was only me and another lady (who wanted to start writing a book) with different needs to be met than the rest of students.

I'll be honest it helped me a lot although I didn't get a place for Ms.
After that course my style of expressing my thoughts have changed, and i'm a non native speaker of English.

If you decide to give it a try, try to get a place at Dr. Fleur Rothschild's class. She is brilliant.
