Hi everyone, i need some advice. I started my maternity leave in december, my little boy was born in march and i have now been back at work a few weeks. I dont earn enough to claim smp so i had to claim maternity allowance instead.

Now im back im trying to sort out what holidays im entitled to, this was my first child so ive never done this before. My boss isnt very helpful, i have to keep asking so i want to know my rights before he tells me what he thinks im entitled to.

Do my holidays accrue as normal even though he wasnt paying me? How does it work will he pay me for the holidays i accrued while on leave or will i still get my holidays to use this year?

Any advice on this would be great, im looking for other mums personal experiences rather than links to websites as i just dont understand.

Xx

Depends on your work. You will accrue holidays for your maternity leave but how you take them is dependant on your company policy. I had to take my holidays for this year before my maternity leave as my companies policy says you must do this if your leave is over 2 holiday years but a lot of places let you carry them over. Do you have a company handbook?

Yes, you accrue holidays, and bank holidays while on maternity.
Different companies have different policies on pay or time off.
I know you said no links, but ACAS is fairly simple, and might be useful for your boss

Your holidays should accrue and you can't be paid for the minimum 5.6 weeks per year, that's illegal. They have to let you take the holidays. If you don't have a maternity policy then use the one given on the .gov website. Which is the law.

im looking for other mums personal experiences I am not a mum. I am a Director. HTH.
