If you're not still practising. Do you miss it?

I have four children, a relatively new business and bugger all time - but I've just emailed a private gynae/fertility practice who put out an ad in our local paper for part-time RNs with gynae experience.

I really miss nursing. Shall I apply to be on a 'Be an NHS Nurse' advert somewhere for Patricia Hewitt.

I really miss it.

Will someone who's still in the thick of it remind me how stressful it can be? Please. And I will take off my rose-coloured spectacles.

Tiredemma, glad you're back, didn't mean to scare you off, do you know this little conversation, depressing as it is at times is actually lifing my spirits and getting me in the mindset for work, how odd am I? Crazy!!! Anyway, tiredemma, remember those drs, when you're in post and they come to your area and they don't know ANYTHING, honestly, they don't and you do, they have to ask you! hahahaha, or you get to tell them how to do their jobs!!!! You will find that SHO's think they know it all, they don't and registrars are really arsey and consultants know that nurses run the ward and the most respected consultants in our (large) trust have told the registrars in no uncertain terms to 'listen to these girls (they are sexist) they know what they're talking about' cue embarassed and humbled reg! Thanks Doc -- sorry Mr! we had a female Dr who had come to do a placement with us, she couldn't work out where to change, the male changing said Drs and the female said nurses! She was mad, we were in an old building with old mindset!

If its any consolation Sally, half of the academic stuff you learn is pretty useless when you are doing the day to day work on the wards and you really start learning when you get your first job.

You'll get there, you're determined enough aren't you?! Rant warning - you know what the NHS needs? Good nurses! So get on and be one! If you tell your placement that you're struggling a bit, they'll probably give you some time to do it, maybe an hour in the staff room when they're quiet (if ever!) or early home now and again, where I work would...!

I've been qualified 7 years and at the moment I love where I work but unfortunately I am only there until March.Nursing can be an extreamly catty and bitchy place to be especially with the majority of staff being women (I am currently in two minds on whether or not I should make a formal complaint against a complete cow who is trying to destroy my career through HER incompetance.). I also picked up the feedback for dissertation the other week (have both a diploma and degree now) and found that what my tutor had told me was at a low 2:1, top 2:2 mark, was in fact shiter than shite and I complete she let me submit it when it was eveidently sooo shite. Sally beware of what the tutors tell you, especially if they are called Leslie and have recently been "reappropriated within the trust", i.e. taken off tutorial duties.
Happy days.. (i'm very sorry to post this but I am very angry right now about everything happening in my life and I hate being lied to!!!!!).

theposterformerlyknownasMammyM · 01/12/2006 22:11

Tiggly is that your final mark or can you contest it? Seems unfair and especially as it seems your tutor has had other problems?

It's not like that everywhere, just keep your wits about you and find your friends.

I spoke to the other tutor who was overseeing the other 2 students in my group and to quote "whats the point in contesting the marks, you passed!". I can see her point but I know I could have done better but was told to submt what I had as it was of a high enough quality. I scraped through, just, by looking at the marking criteria.
what kind of placement are you on at the moment? medicine, surgery etc?
