CV help please, need to explain GAP

Hi All,

I used to work in insurance but gave up my job because then DH was often travelling abroad for work, sometimes weeks on end and I found it difficult to look after the DC and commute to London. Whilst I was not in a full time job I worked part time as a swimming teacher which I have done for about 2 years. Then when kids went to secondary school I decided to go back to work and ended up in banking. Banking was not what I wanted to do but the job was there for the taking and it paid well. Unfortunately the job is moving abroad in a few months time and it is likely the entire department will be made redundant. I'm now a single parent so I can not afford to being out of work. I'm however struggling to make the 2 years that I have been at home/swimming teaching sound good on my CV. Ideally I would like to return to insurance. Also do I include the swimming qualifications on my CV?

Any advice how to explain this GAP on my CV so it does not stick out like a sore thumb would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re the reason for leaving the insurance job just put that you wished to seek part time employment owing to childcare responsibilities. I would include the swim teaching qualification as any form of teaching is a transferable skill.

I agree with lorelai22

Family responsiblities cover the gap nicely.

I've found employers very tolerant of the massive gap in my CV. Just make sure they see the good stuff first.

Thank you. Think I'm just worried employers will run for the hills once the word family is mentioned. Where I am now people are not very sympathetic about leaving on time in the evenings and taking time if for DCs. Also thanks for the advice to leave swimming qualification in as I would have taken it out. So will just leave it there.

If you were working, even pt, you don't have a gap. When I took a step back for a while, I explained the "backward" step by saying that I took the opportunity to become more involved in the community, with some examples(like teaching local children to swim!)
