Just had the worst interview ever...

Hi everyone,

So a little background- I left my job in may but I got on well with everyone there including my boss. Well there were 2 bosses but one was a few years off retirement and just seemed to hang around to make sexist remarks and criticize everyones work. We all knew this but just humored him while he always explained the 'right' (old fashioned) way. I couldn't ever see myself progressing with his views so I left.

I heard about an opening in a college nearby that would be my dream job. I applied and got an interview- I spent the next 2 weeks preparing and getting everything just right. I also went to this college myself and was a great student, I received my Masters with a different college and again got on great with everyone except one lecturer whom I had a disagreement with. It was sorted in the end but definitely some bad blood there.

So interview day! I walk in and there is a panel of 5 and you guessed it! My former sexist boss and the only lecturer I ever had a problem with out of about 20 I had through the years sitting there on the panel. What the hell? Was that on purpose or fluke? Is that even legal like how can that be objective? Fair enough they wouldn't have known about the lecturer but they had my CV- they knew my former boss. AND first question? 'Why did you leave your last place of employment?'

Anyways, I was so thrown with them there I completely blew the interview I was so psyched for.

I can't help feeling hard done by and I'm just so disappointed. Is this fair? What do you guys think?

Bad luck. What positions do they hold now? If you'll be working closely with them would you still want the job?

They don't even work there! Panel was made up of 5- 3 were employed with the college but the lecturer from the other college was there for the day to make the panel 'unbiased' and my former boss was there as 'qualified and experienced' in my field to make sure the candidates knew their stuff.

That does seem like a conflict having your ex boss there. I'm not sure that there are legal reasons why it shouldn't happen but it does really go against the grain as you weren't advised before hand.
I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to give you a more useful answer but that was very grim. I'm sure you acquitted yourself admirably anyway.
