Calling school nurses

I'm looking for advice regarding the benefits of working as a school nurse v the benefits of shift working. Currently work shifts in a job I enjoy, but the weekends and nights are taking their toll. The prospect of term time only and every weekend off is really tempting. Obviously it would increase my childcare issues, but not too much I don't think. Is school nursing a nice job???

I'm not a school nurse but I have a friend who is in London. It sounds more like a social worker to me! Lots to do with vulnerable children and safeguarding. Lots of admin too by the sound it.

I think she quite likes it as it fits in with kids but she misses the clinical side of nursing. Will go back when the children are a bit older I think.

Thanks for your response. I think it is a lot of safeguarding stuff. I think I would probably miss the clinical side as well. But no more nights.......

Could you go and shadow one for a week? I'm sure that would give you a good idea.

Have you considered the reduced money from no longer working night duty and weekends? It's completely different as previously said more like being a social worker. It can also be a little lonely that said for me the advantages outweighed any negatives and yes it is a nice job. Good luck

Have you thought about practice nursing ? Not term time tho . Often not advertised on NHSjobs though, LMC website or local paper.

I can't do practice nursing as I'm paeds trained. I've considered the drop in salary, and I think it would be worth it overall. I can always do bank shifts to make it up a bit. I've seen another advert today for a school nurse in the specialist inclusive learning centres. Completely different kind of job I guess, do any of you lovely people have any experience in that?
