Failed course - should db inform employers.

Db just finished a course (retraining to a new field after 15 years we). Whilst studying he was offered a prestigious job, along with about 10 other people from his college. The offer letter asked for many conditions to be met, including 'evidence of qualifications gained' and he provided previous degree etc.

But db failed the course . He thinks he probably won't be asked for evidence of passing it, but isn't sure, and almost everyone working there will have passed it.

Should he own up now, or take the job and try and prove his worth, so if it's found out later that he didn't pass they'll want to keep him more? :( He's fairly certain if he confesses then he'll lose the job and has a young family to support .

If they require evidence of the qualification; how does he propose to hide the fact that he won't have evidence? He'll very likely be asked to produce it upfront.
Can he retake the final exam?

He can retake but not til next june. If he's asked for evidence he'll have to confess, but it's possible he won't be, as, due to his previous work experience he was employed through a different route than the other graduates.

We ask for original certificates of all stated qualifications and if it transpires that they have lied about passing a qualification then we would terminate their employment immediately, how could we not? Even more so if the course was integral to the position.

There's a whole difference between outright lying and getting it slightly wrong, as often happens e.g. somebody thinks they had a B and they had a C etc.

It's whether the 'evidence of qualifications .. ' could be taken as meaning previous ones (longshot I know). He doesn't know the other people well enough to ask about their offer letters, but a friend ( who got a job at another company)'s letter said 'this offer is subject to your passing the final exams'.

Oh and course isn't integral to job, but it's evidence of working at a certain level iyswim.

It's entirely up to him. But he'd be dismissed if found out.
Better to be honest now.

If the course is part of his re training, (and it obviously is), then his previous qualifications may not be strictly relevant. If the company targeted people on his course specifically; that's obviously what they're looking for.

Thanks for the advice, db has told his future employers and is waiting to hear what they say. Fingers crossed it'll be OK.

Is there a way he can resit the exam? Think he did the right thing Telling them. Gook luck.
